Family programming is an important part of quality addiction rehab programming. Addiction is a systemic disease meaning that it impacts not only the drug user, but almost always, the family around them as well. There is often a cycle of negative behavior patterns, living in a constant state of crisis, and perhaps co-dependency issues.
As a a premier residential addiction treatment provider in Panama City Beach Florida, JourneyPure Emerald Coast excels in the area of family weekend programming for our patients and their families. The family day is offered every other weekend on Saturdays for a full day of programming. The programming consists of educational groups as well as therapeutic activities. Individual sessions with our primary therapist is available upon request. For the family day, lunch is provided so that families and patients have some time to visit with one another in a relaxed setting, and we conclude with a wrap up group with family members only.
Lindy Fox-Smith oversees our family programming and thanks to her vast experience in the field integrated treatment, our family programming is top tier. Lindy retired from the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center, after 23 years in service there as a Senior Research Associate. Examining efficacy of various treatment programs for people with mental illness and Substance Use Disorder, Lindy is an expert in successful programming and ensures that JourneyPure Emerald Coast provides a program of excellence. Lindy also has a great deal of clinical experience providing group and individual treatment to people in recovery. Combining her research and treatment skills, she is an invaluable asset to the JourneyPure Emerald Coast team.
Another important component of our family programming is to meet with families to discuss discharge planning. Discharge planning allows our families to be involved, in a healthy way, in the aftercare and support of their loved one when they leave the residential treatment center. While the treatment plan differs for each patient, it is imperative that treatment continues upon discharge. Families will also have an opportunity to discuss their personal plans, healthy boundaries and how to be supportive through their own programming and peer support networks.
